Hyderabad: The Andhra Assembly begins its winter session on Monday and the ruling Congress is under tremendous pressure on the demand for a separate Telangana.

Other major parties,
including the TDP, Praja Rajyam and the CPI have announced their support to a resolution. While on the streets, TRS activists continued with violence as part of their 48 hour bandh.

TRS supremo K Chandrashekahar Rao who was at the centre of Telangana movement is back in the spotlight as he desperately tries to resurrect himself especially after his party suffered a shock defeat in the last election – a fact even the Congress Chief Minister K Rosiah acknowledges.

“If Chandrashekahar Rao continues his fast, there is bound to be more violence, hence he should give up the fast and I can talk to him on Telangana issue once he has regained strength,” said, Rosiah.

Normal life in Hyderabad has been thrown out of gear by a 48-hour bandh that has been called by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in support of Rao's fast unto death.

Tension has been prevailing in and around the Nizam's Institue of medical Sciences, where Rao has been admitted. The TRS meanwhile maintains that it cannot be held responsible for the ensuing violence.

Chandrashekahar Rao’s son T Rama Rao said, “Whatever happened after November 29 is not our responsibility. Government should take steps to maintain law and order.”

While most opposition parties including BJP and Chiranjeevi's Prajarajyam have extended support to TRS's call for Telangana, Congress says it is a decision that will need a deeper consensus.
