Rangers trade for Pudge Rodriguez

The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher Pudge Rodriguez from the Houston Astros in exchange for two minor leaguers, according to The Dallas Morning NewsRodriguez, a 14-time All-Star and 13-time Gold Glove winner, began his major league career with the Rangers in 1991 and played with them until the 2002 season. Before the 2003 season, he signed as a free agent with the Marlins.The wild card-leading Rangers have a need at catcher with starter Jarrod Saltalamacchia (thoracic outlet syndrome) on the disabled list. Saltalamacchia still could return this season, according to the The Dallas Morning News. In the meantime, Rodriguez will serve as the backup to Taylor Teagarden.Rodriguez hit .251 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in 94 games for Houston this season. .
