Ms.Meera Sanyal, who is on leave from the bank till May 15 to concentrate on her campaigning, said she would be contesting as an independent and her entire campaign would be self-funded and within EC's prescribed ceiling of Rs 25-lakh.A draft masterplan for Mumbai city and a five-point agenda for development would be ready and placed before the electorate within the next 48-hours, she said. "My campaign will be focussed on Mumbai," she said.
Asked if she had approached any political party for its ticket, Ms.Meera Sanyal said "I did not look at all towards any political party to stand as its candidate. I found it difficult to align myself with their ideologies."
Meera Sanyal, executive vice-president and country executive, India, at ABN Amro Bank NA will stand for the Lok Sabha seat from South Mumbai. An ABN Amro spokesperson said Sanyal, who will contest as an independent candidate, has gone on leave till mid-May.
Madan Menon, managing director and country head, in charge of wholesale, corporate and investment banking, is likely to look after Sanyal's portfolio in her absence. The bank will make a formal announcement in this regard next week. Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc. has acquired ABN Amro's Asian operations but the process is not yet over in India.
